Two pilots killed in fighter jet crash in northeastern India
Two pilots from the Indian Air Force (IAF) were killed after a fighter jet crashed in the northeastern state of Assam, in India, during a training mission.
According to official statements, the aircraft — a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet — lost contact shortly after taking off from the city of Jorhat on Thursday evening. The crash occurred in the Karbi Anglong district, a mountainous region known for its dense forests.
Search and rescue teams were deployed immediately after the aircraft disappeared from radar. Authorities later confirmed that both pilots had died as a result of the crash.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the Indian Air Force expressed condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized its support during this difficult time.
The Su-30MKI is a multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by Russian aerospace engineers and widely used by India for both training and operational missions. Investigators have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident, as military aviation incidents often require detailed technical analysis.
Such crashes, although rare, highlight the risks associated with military flight training and the importance of safety and maintenance procedures in modern air forces.
