Citigroup appoints Morgan Stanley veteran Jean-Baptiste Charlet to lead French operations
Citigroup has appointed Jean-Baptiste Charlet to lead its operations in France, bringing in a senior Morgan Stanley veteran with more than three decades of experience in financial markets.
Charlet will take the formal position of Citi Country Officer and Banking Head for France, giving him responsibility for the US banking group's activities in one of Europe's major financial centres.
The appointment marks a significant move by Citi to strengthen its leadership in the French market as international banks continue to compete for corporate and investment-banking business across Europe.
More than three decades at Morgan Stanley
Charlet joins Citi after spending over 30 years at Morgan Stanley, where he built a long career working with clients and transactions across French and European markets.
His experience includes advising clients and overseeing business development, giving him an extensive network within the region's financial and corporate sectors.
Citi highlighted his relationships with clients as well as his record in originating and executing transactions when announcing the appointment.
The bank described Charlet as bringing strong leadership and extensive knowledge of the French and wider European markets to his new position.
A senior appointment for Citi France
Charlet's new role combines country leadership with responsibility for banking activities, placing him at the centre of Citi's French business.
His appointment comes as global financial institutions continue to position themselves around major European markets and seek experienced executives with established relationships among corporate and institutional clients.
For Citi, recruiting a banker with longstanding experience in France provides an opportunity to deepen its local presence while leveraging its broader international network.
HEC Paris graduate with military experience
Charlet is a graduate of HEC Paris, one of France's leading business schools. Before establishing his career in international banking, he also spent a year in the French Navy.
His professional background combines long-term experience in investment banking with an understanding of the French business environment, two elements that Citi is seeking to bring together through its new country leadership.
The appointment further strengthens the bank's senior management in France as it continues to serve clients across domestic and European markets.
