Israeli sources warn of possible confrontation with Trump over Gaza

Tensions between Israel and the United States appear to be growing over the future of the Gaza Strip, with Israeli political sources warning of a possible confrontation with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump if disagreements cannot be resolved.

According to Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, the dispute centers on a 15-point document released by the “Board of Peace” outlining elements of a potential framework for addressing the conflict in Gaza.

Sources close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly said that Israel does not intend to follow the proposed 15-point framework and does not plan to halt its military operations in the Gaza Strip under the current conditions.

The same sources reportedly argued that the recent reduction in targeted operations was based primarily on operational considerations rather than a broader decision to suspend military activity. Israeli officials have also continued to communicate concerns to Washington over what they describe as violations and movements by Hamas inside Gaza.

Netanyahu has publicly rejected key elements of the proposed framework. During a government meeting, he reiterated that Israel would not agree to a withdrawal from Gaza unless Hamas is fully disarmed.

The Israeli prime minister stressed that any disarmament process would have to be comprehensive, covering both heavy and light weapons, and insisted that Israel was seeking what he described as genuine disarmament rather than a symbolic arrangement.

The disagreements highlight the increasingly difficult balance between Washington and Tel Aviv as the Trump administration seeks to shape the next phase of the Gaza conflict.

Netanyahu acknowledged that discussions with U.S. officials were continuing and that several proposals had been presented, with some viewed as acceptable by Israel and others considered incompatible with its position.

The dispute could become a significant test for the traditionally close U.S.-Israeli relationship, particularly if Washington increases pressure on Israel to accept a broader political or security framework for Gaza.

For now, both sides remain engaged in negotiations, but the conflicting positions over military operations, disarmament and a possible Israeli withdrawal suggest that substantial disagreements remain unresolved.
