Migrants Build Makeshift Shelters on Beach in Ceuta

Several migrants stranded in Ceuta have begun building makeshift shelters on Tramposol beach after spending more than a week sleeping outdoors, according to local reports.

Using branches, dried grass, pieces of fabric and discarded materials, the migrants are attempting to protect themselves from cold nights, strong sea winds and humidity. Parts of the beach have gradually turned into a precarious camp, with small improvised huts and tents scattered across the area.

Most of those stranded reportedly reached the Spanish enclave by sea after long journeys through several countries. Many say they fled violence, insecurity or extreme poverty and hoped to seek asylum or establish a new life in Spain.

Instead, they have found themselves facing difficult living conditions. With no permanent accommodation available, many spend their days exposed to the weather while relying on limited assistance from local residents and volunteers. Emergency health and sanitation services have reportedly been introduced, but access to adequate shelter remains a major concern.

The makeshift structures provide only minimal protection and are not a sustainable solution. They nevertheless offer migrants some relief from the elements and a degree of privacy while they wait for their situation to be resolved.

Behind the improvised shelters are people whose journeys have been shaped by hardship and uncertainty, now facing an uncertain future in Ceuta.
