Meta targets premium AI market with $200 monthly Hatch plan
Meta is preparing an ambitious push into the consumer artificial intelligence market with Hatch, a new autonomous AI agent that could cost users as much as $199.99 per month. The proposed pricing would place the service among the most expensive consumer AI subscriptions available and position it in direct competition with premium offerings from rivals such as OpenAI.
Hatch is designed to move beyond traditional chatbot functions by acting independently on behalf of users. The system is being developed to handle a range of everyday tasks, including managing calendars, sending emails, building digital tools and completing online purchases with limited human supervision. To prepare the agent for real-world use, Meta is training it in controlled web environments that simulate popular online platforms, including DoorDash, Etsy, Reddit, Yelp and Outlook. Internal testing is expected to continue through the end of June.
According to reports, the highest subscription tier would provide expanded usage limits and enhanced capabilities. The pricing strategy reflects Meta's effort to generate recurring revenue from its growing artificial intelligence investments. The company recently introduced Meta One subscription plans, with premium consumer packages reaching $19.99 per month and offering advanced AI reasoning and content generation features.
The development of Hatch comes as Meta expands its broader AI business strategy. The company recently introduced Agent Business, a commercial AI assistant available through WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. The platform enables businesses to automate customer service, qualify leads and support sales activities. More than one million businesses already use earlier versions of Meta's AI business tools, and paid offerings are expected to follow in the coming months.
A $200 monthly Hatch subscription would represent a significant step beyond Meta's existing consumer and professional plans. The company currently offers subscription products across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, with prices ranging from a few dollars per month to professional packages costing nearly $50 monthly. By introducing a high-end autonomous AI agent, Meta is betting that some consumers will pay substantially more for software capable of completing tasks independently rather than simply responding to prompts.
