Morocco's Vaccination Drive Continues to Soar Despite Low COVID-19 Incidence

Morocco recently reported a mere 100 new COVID-19 infections and one death over the past week, as per data released by the Ministry of Health. Despite the persistently low case count, the nation's vaccination campaign is maintaining its vigorous pace.

According to reports from health authorities in Rabat, over 24.9 million Moroccans have received their initial vaccine dose, with 23.4 million now fully vaccinated after completing their two-shot regimen. The administration of booster doses is also gaining traction, with more than 6.88 million individuals having received additional shots. Moreover, around 61,419 individuals have opted for the newly authorized booster shot.

In terms of geographical distribution, the majority of new cases have been reported in the northern region of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, accounting for 68 infections. Following closely are Souss-Massa and Daraâ-Tafilalet with 16 and 7 cases, respectively. Greater Casablanca-Settat and Fez-Meknès have registered 6 and 3 new patients, respectively.

With the addition of 100 new infections, Morocco's cumulative COVID-19 cases now stand at 1,278,944 since the onset of the pandemic. The overall positivity rate for the past week has remained stable at 5%. Additionally, one more death has been attributed to virus-related complications, bringing the total death toll in Morocco to 16,302, representing a 1.3% case fatality rate. Presently, only 125 active cases are being reported.

Despite the encouraging decline in case numbers, Moroccan health authorities remain vigilant and committed to expanding vaccine accessibility nationwide, demonstrating an unwavering dedication to public health and safety.
