France unemployment registrations remain broadly stable in second quarter of 2026
The number of job seekers registered with France Travail remained largely stable in the second quarter of 2026, according to figures released by the French Labour Ministry’s statistics department, Dares.
The latest data shows a limited increase in the number of unemployed people registered in category A, which includes individuals without employment who are required to actively search for work. The figure rose by 0.8% during the quarter, confirming a period of relative stability in the French labour market.
Over a one-year period, however, the number of category A job seekers increased by 3.1%, reflecting continued pressure on employment conditions.
Labour market shows limited movement
The quarterly figures suggest that unemployment dynamics in France have not undergone major changes in recent months. While the number of registered job seekers has edged upward, the pace of increase remains moderate compared with previous periods of labour market deterioration.

Since January 2025, France Travail has automatically registered certain groups, including recipients of the active solidarity income (RSA) and people involved in employment support programs.

Authorities also consider the effects of the “suspension-remobilisation” procedure introduced in 2025, which aims to encourage beneficiaries to return to active job searches before any potential removal from registration lists.
