Morocco and UK strengthen military cooperation during Rabat talks
Morocco and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral military cooperation during high-level talks held in Rabat on Tuesday.
Abdeltif Loudyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, received Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, the UK's Senior Defence Adviser for the Middle East and North Africa. The meeting was held in the presence of the British ambassador to Morocco.
The discussions highlighted the longstanding relations between the two countries and the positive development of their military partnership. Both sides reviewed the progress achieved through regular meetings of the Joint Military Commission, high-level official visits and military training programs.
The two countries have also worked to improve interoperability, allowing their armed forces to enhance their ability to cooperate during joint operations and exercises. Their defense partnership is supported by a broad legal framework, including a military and technical cooperation agreement signed in 1993 and an agreement concerning the status of forces and mutual support concluded in 2013, alongside additional technical arrangements.
During the meeting, Loudyi also highlighted Morocco's initiatives in South-South cooperation and regional integration. These efforts form part of the Kingdom's broader approach to promoting stability, development and shared prosperity across Africa.
The British defense official, for his part, praised Morocco's role in supporting peace and stability, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa. The discussions reflected the growing importance of Morocco as a strategic partner in regional security and international cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their shared determination to further develop bilateral military relations and expand cooperation in the years ahead. The talks underscored the mutual interest of Morocco and the United Kingdom in maintaining a strong and sustainable defense partnership.
