Vespa maker Piaggio raises dividend outlook after strong second-quarter performance
Italian mobility group Piaggio has announced plans to increase its interim dividend after delivering stronger-than-expected second-quarter results, supported by higher vehicle sales and improved profitability.
The company behind the iconic Vespa scooter brand reported a significant rise in operating profit for the April-June period, encouraging investors and pushing its shares higher on Tuesday.
Strong sales drive profit growth
Piaggio sold 150,400 vehicles during the second quarter of 2026, compared with 131,700 units during the same period a year earlier. The increase reflects continued demand for the group’s scooters and other mobility products across international markets.
Core earnings, measured by EBITDA, rose to €91.2 million, representing growth of more than 7%. The company reported an EBITDA margin of 18.2%, highlighting improved operational efficiency.
Consolidated net sales also increased by 7% at constant exchange rates, reaching approximately €515 million.
Higher dividend rewards shareholders
Following the positive financial performance, Piaggio announced plans to distribute an interim dividend of 5.7 euro cents per share based on its 2026 results, compared with 4 cents per share the previous year.
The decision reflects confidence in the company’s financial position and its ability to generate stronger returns for investors.
The announcement contributed to a rise of around 2% in Piaggio’s share price during Tuesday trading.
Financial position continues to improve
Beyond revenue and profit growth, Piaggio strengthened its balance sheet during the period.
The company reduced its net financial debt by around 10% compared with a year earlier, bringing the figure down to €481.7 million at the end of June.
The improvement provides the group with greater flexibility as it continues investing in product development, innovation and the future of urban mobility.
Vespa brand remains a global asset
Piaggio’s performance continues to benefit from the international appeal of Vespa, one of the world’s most recognizable scooter brands.
The company has successfully maintained the brand’s cultural and commercial relevance while adapting to changing consumer expectations around urban transportation and sustainable mobility.
With stronger earnings, rising sales and a more favorable shareholder return policy, Piaggio enters the second half of 2026 with renewed confidence in its growth strategy.
