Jewish school in Paris vandalized overnight, religious plaque destroyed
A Jewish primary school in Paris’ 20th arrondissement was vandalized during the night of January 31. Authorities reported multiple damages, including broken windows and the removal of a religious plaque identifying the school.
According to police sources, three windows were shattered and a security camera was torn off. Nearby, officers recovered a plaque from the school in a public square, demonstrating that the act targeted the school’s religious identity. No burglary occurred, as the perpetrators did not enter the building.
The Paris Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation for aggravated property damage with two aggravating circumstances: “in a group” and “because of religion.” Investigators are working to identify those responsible.
In France, antisemitic acts remain a concern. Official figures report 1,570 antisemitic incidents in 2024, and 889 cases during the first eight months of 2025.
