Two municipal police officers injured in knife attack in central Toulouse

Two municipal police officers were slightly injured during a knife attack in central Toulouse on Monday, after a man allegedly approached their patrol vehicle before threatening the officers and displaying two knives.

The suspect was arrested following the confrontation, according to a police source.

The incident occurred on Rue d’Austerlitz while three municipal officers were carrying out a motorised patrol in the city centre.

Encounter escalates rapidly

According to the police account, the man initially approached the officers' vehicle claiming that he wanted information.

The situation reportedly changed once he reached the patrol car. The man allegedly began insulting and threatening the three officers before producing two knives.

The confrontation was captured on video and subsequently circulated widely on social media.

Footage reviewed by French media appeared to show officers struggling to restrain the suspect as he attempted to flee the scene.

Two officers taken to hospital

Two of the three municipal police officers were slightly injured during the intervention, according to the information provided by police sources.

Both were taken to Rangueil Hospital in Toulouse for medical treatment.

The extent of their injuries was described as minor, and the suspect was successfully brought under control and arrested.

Authorities examine circumstances

The incident has drawn attention because of the nature of the alleged threats made during the confrontation.

Toulouse Mayor Jean-Luc Moudenc referred to statements allegedly made by the suspect as having a “terrorist nature”, although the circumstances and any potential motive remain subject to investigation.

Authorities will now seek to establish the precise sequence of events, including what prompted the attack and whether the suspect acted alone.

The investigation is ongoing as police and judicial authorities examine the evidence surrounding the incident.
