Morocco ranks among Africa’s fastest countries for internet upload speeds

Morocco is emerging as one of Africa’s strongest performers for internet upload speeds, according to data published by nPerf covering the period from January through July 2026.

With an average upload speed of 18.8 Mbps, Morocco ranked second across the African countries included in the comparison, behind Madagascar. The result places the North African kingdom well ahead of several regional and continental competitors.

Morocco outpaces North African neighbors

The gap is particularly pronounced when Morocco is compared with other countries in North Africa.

Tunisia and Algeria each recorded an average upload speed of 9.6 Mbps, roughly half the Moroccan figure. The difference suggests a significant advantage for Moroccan users when sending large files or handling data-intensive online services.

Further south, Senegal posted an average of 13.7 Mbps, followed by Benin at 11.8 Mbps and Côte d’Ivoire at 11.4 Mbps.

South Africa recorded 8.2 Mbps, while Kenya reached 7.4 Mbps, leaving both well below Morocco's performance.

The figures underline Morocco's increasingly competitive position in Africa's digital connectivity landscape.

Faster uploads change everyday digital use

Upload speed is often less visible to consumers than download performance, but it plays an increasingly important role in modern internet use.

At an average rate of 18.8 Mbps, a theoretical 1 GB file could be uploaded in approximately seven minutes under ideal conditions. At 9.6 Mbps, the same transfer would take roughly 14 minutes.

That difference can become noticeable in everyday activities such as high-definition video sharing, cloud backups, remote work, professional file transfers and video conferencing.

For businesses in particular, stronger upstream connectivity can facilitate collaboration, cloud-based applications and the transfer of increasingly large digital files.

Telecom investment supports Morocco's digital ambitions

Morocco's position in the ranking reflects the country's continued development of its telecommunications infrastructure.

Improved network capacity is becoming increasingly important as households, companies and public services rely more heavily on digital platforms.

The nPerf figures therefore provide more than a snapshot of internet performance. They also point to Morocco's broader efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure and improve the quality of online services.

Maintaining that momentum will be crucial as demand for cloud computing, high-definition content, remote services and other bandwidth-intensive applications continues to grow.

For Morocco, the latest ranking reinforces its position as one of the continent's more advanced digital markets, particularly in terms of upstream connectivity.
