Moroccan telecom operator inwi has deployed the country’s first private 5G network dedicated to industrial use, marking a new phase in Morocco’s digital transformation. The announcement was made during GITEX Africa 2026 in Marrakech.

The network will serve a 52 hectare industrial site in the Oriental region, one of the largest factories on the continent. The facility is designed as a fully digitalized platform aligned with Industry 4.0 standards, integrating automation and advanced data systems to improve operational efficiency.

The project is part of a partnership between inwi and China Mobile International. Under the agreement, inwi is responsible for designing, deploying, and operating the private 5G infrastructure for a major industrial client.

The network will provide ultra low latency, high stability, and scalable connectivity across the entire site. These capabilities are essential for critical industrial processes, including real time monitoring, automation, and intelligent control systems.

The deployment also enables large scale integration of Internet of Things solutions, supporting predictive maintenance and optimized production workflows. Officials say the project aims to position the المصنع as a reference model for industrial productivity in Africa.

To deliver the infrastructure, inwi is working with Huawei to develop a portfolio of private 5G solutions tailored to sectors such as mining, renewable energy, agriculture, and logistics.

The initiative represents Morocco’s first implementation of private 5G and ranks among the most advanced industrial connectivity projects on the continent. It reflects a broader push to strengthen high value infrastructure and technological capabilities.

Morocco launched commercial 5G services in November 2025, with operators required to reach 45 percent population coverage by 2026 and 85 percent by 2030. The rollout is part of the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, supported by planned investment of MAD 80 billion through 2035.

On the sidelines of the event, inwi also signed an agreement with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services of the Rabat Salé Kénitra region to support small and medium enterprises. The partnership will provide businesses with access to telecom services at preferential rates and offer training in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and digital payments.

The operator plans to extend similar partnerships across other regions, aiming to accelerate digital adoption among local businesses and strengthen regional economic development.
