Renault posts stable first-half vehicle sales as electric R5 strengthens European position
Renault delivered nearly 1.2 million vehicles worldwide during the first six months of 2026, reporting broadly stable sales despite softer demand in its core European market, while highlighting the growing commercial success of its latest electric models.
The French automaker recorded a 0.4% year-on-year decline in global deliveries during the first half of the year, reflecting a resilient performance in a competitive automotive environment shaped by slowing consumer demand and the ongoing transition toward electrification.
Europe remains Renault's largest market
Between January and June, Renault sold 821,092 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles across Europe, representing a 1.3% decrease compared with the same period in 2025.
Although regional deliveries edged lower, the company maintained a strong presence in one of the world's most competitive automotive markets.
Renault brand outperforms group trend
The performance of the Renault brand contrasted with the group's overall results. Brand-specific sales increased 2.6% year-on-year, reaching 528,849 vehicles during the first half of 2026.
The figures suggest that Renault's renewed product lineup continues to attract buyers despite broader market pressures affecting the industry.
Electric Renault 5 gains momentum
A key contributor to the brand's performance has been the Renault 5 E-Tech, which the company says has become Europe's best-selling electric vehicle in the B-segment, a category covering compact urban cars.
Renault also reported that it now ranks second in the European retail electric vehicle market and second in the hybrid vehicle segment, underscoring the growing importance of electrified models within its sales mix.
Electrification strategy supports long-term growth
The latest results reinforce Renault's strategic focus on expanding its electric and hybrid portfolio while adapting to changing consumer preferences and increasingly stringent emissions regulations across Europe.
Although overall group volumes were marginally lower than a year ago, the continued momentum of its electrified range indicates that the manufacturer is strengthening its competitive position in Europe's evolving automotive landscape.
As competition intensifies among legacy automakers and new entrants, Renault's ability to convert its electric vehicle investments into sustained commercial growth will remain a key indicator for investors and industry observers.
