France to unveil new national team coach next Tuesday
The French Football Federation (FFF) has announced that it will hold a press conference next Tuesday to introduce the new head coach of the French national team, although the identity of the successor to Didier Deschamps has not yet been officially confirmed.
FFF president Philippe Diallo is expected to present the new manager to the media at the federation's headquarters in Paris following an extraordinary executive committee meeting scheduled for the morning of July 28.
Former France international Zinedine Zidane is widely regarded as the leading candidate to take over the national team. However, his name was not mentioned in the federation's official announcement.
Deschamps ended his long tenure with France after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing to a close a period that began in 2012. During his time in charge, he guided Les Bleus to the 2018 World Cup title and established France as one of the leading forces in international football.
The national team finished fourth at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, marking the end of Deschamps' successful spell on the French bench.
Zidane, 54, has repeatedly expressed his ambition to coach France at some point in his career. The former midfielder is considered one of the most successful French football figures of his generation and has previously been linked with the national team position.
His coaching career has so far been exclusively with Real Madrid, where he enjoyed remarkable success during two spells between 2016 and 2021. Zidane led the Spanish giants to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018, a historic achievement in European club football.
If appointed, Zidane would follow in the footsteps of former France internationals who went on to coach the national side, including Laurent Blanc and Deschamps. His potential arrival would mark the beginning of a new era for the French team as it prepares for its next international challenges.
The French Football Federation's press conference on July 28 is therefore expected to attract significant attention, with supporters and football observers waiting for official confirmation of the identity of the coach who will lead Les Bleus into the next chapter of their international journey.
