Turkey to urge NATO unity ahead of Ankara summit in July
Turkey is expected to call for stronger unity within NATO ahead of the alliance’s upcoming leaders’ summit scheduled to take place in Ankara on July 7–8.
According to diplomatic sources, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will convey Ankara’s expectation that the summit should reinforce NATO’s cohesion and strategic integrity. He is also set to attend a NATO foreign ministers’ meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden, where preparations for the summit will be discussed.
Turkey plans to highlight its contributions to the alliance, particularly in defense capabilities and regional security cooperation. Officials are also expected to stress the importance of strengthening transatlantic defense industry collaboration without restrictions.
In addition, discussions may include the possible invitation of partner countries from the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region to participate in the summit at ministerial level.
The upcoming gathering is seen as an important opportunity for NATO members to reaffirm solidarity amid ongoing global security challenges.
