Turkey discusses US-Iran negotiations with Qatar and Pakistan amid de-escalation efforts
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate discussions with senior Qatari and Pakistani officials on Sunday regarding ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States, as regional actors continue efforts to support a broader reduction in tensions.
Fidan spoke by phone with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as well as Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.
Regional powers push for diplomatic progress
The conversations focused on the latest developments in the dialogue process between Tehran and Washington, with Qatar and Pakistan playing active roles in efforts to encourage de-escalation.
The talks come after a period of intense military confrontation between the United States and Iran, followed by a temporary halt in reported strikes.
Both Doha and Islamabad have been involved in diplomatic initiatives aimed at preventing further escalation and creating conditions for continued negotiations.
Temporary pause in fighting continues
A second consecutive night passed without reports of new US or Iranian strikes, according to monitoring of developments in the region.
The pause followed nearly two weeks of sustained military exchanges, raising cautious hopes that diplomatic channels could help stabilize the situation.
However, officials have not announced a permanent ceasefire, and uncertainty remains over the future of the negotiations.
Qatar and Pakistan maintain mediation roles
Qatar has previously helped facilitate communication between regional and international actors, while Pakistan has also sought to contribute to diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
In June, Washington and Tehran reached a memorandum of understanding that included a ceasefire framework following mediation efforts involving Qatar and Pakistan.
The agreement opened the way for discussions toward a possible long-term arrangement to end the confrontation.
Turkey monitors regional developments
Turkey has closely followed the crisis due to its geographic position and broader role in Middle Eastern diplomacy.
Ankara has repeatedly emphasized the importance of dialogue and regional stability, while maintaining communication with key actors involved in efforts to prevent further conflict.
The latest calls underline continued diplomatic activity as regional governments seek to transform the current pause in hostilities into a more lasting solution.
