Xi Jinping pledges China's support for Brazil as Beijing and Brasilia deepen ties
Chinese President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed Beijing's support for Brazil in resisting what China described as external interference, as the two countries seek to strengthen their strategic partnership across trade, technology and international affairs.
During a phone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Xi said China was prepared to enhance bilateral and multilateral coordination with Brazil, according to China's state-run Xinhua News Agency.
Beijing and Brasilia expand strategic cooperation
The discussion reflects the growing importance of China-Brazil relations, with both countries looking to deepen collaboration in areas ranging from commerce to advanced technologies.
Lula said the two leaders agreed to continue discussions on a possible trade arrangement between China and the Mercosur bloc, a South American economic group that includes Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
