Peru waives tourist visa requirement for Moroccan nationals

The Peruvian government has introduced a new visa exemption measure allowing certain Moroccan nationals to enter the country for tourism without obtaining a separate Peruvian visa, according to local media reports.

Under the new rules, Moroccan citizens holding valid ordinary passports may travel to Peru for tourism purposes without a Peruvian visa if they also possess a valid Schengen visa or a valid visa issued by the United States.

The measure was formalized through Supreme Decree No. 033-2026-RE, published in Peru's official legal bulletin. The decision allows eligible Moroccan travelers to remain in the country for up to 183 days within a one-year period, either through a continuous stay or multiple visits.

Travelers must meet specific validity requirements. Their ordinary passports, as well as the relevant Schengen or U.S. visas, must remain valid for at least six months at the time of entry into Peruvian territory.

The decision is based on the principle of reciprocity between the two countries. Morocco previously removed visa requirements for Peruvian citizens traveling for tourism in 2017, paving the way for Peru to introduce a similar measure for Moroccan nationals.

The new policy is expected to facilitate tourism and people-to-people exchanges between Morocco and Peru, while potentially encouraging greater travel between the two countries. It also reflects broader efforts by governments to simplify international mobility for travelers who already hold visas issued by major destinations.

The decree was signed by Peruvian President José María Balcázar and Foreign Minister Carlos Pareja, according to reports cited by the Peruvian news agency Andina.

The measure marks a new development in Morocco-Peru relations and could make Peru a more accessible destination for Moroccan tourists who meet the eligibility conditions. However, travelers are advised to verify the latest entry requirements and ensure that all required travel documents remain valid before departure.
