Spain’s prime minister sends emotional message to Palestinian children in Gaza
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has sent an emotional message to Palestinian children and families in Gaza, expressing solidarity with them and reaffirming Spain’s support amid the humanitarian crisis in the territory.
The message came in response to a video shared by a young Palestinian girl named Layan, who hoped to send a portrait she had drawn of the Spanish leader. In the footage, the child appeared alongside her artwork against a backdrop of damaged buildings and rubble in Gaza.
Addressing Sánchez and the Spanish people, Layan introduced herself and expressed her wish for the drawing to reach the Spanish prime minister. Her message later received a direct response from Sánchez, who thanked her and the other children involved in the initiative.
In a video shared on social media, the Spanish prime minister praised the gesture and expressed gratitude for the affection shown by Palestinians toward Spain. He also addressed Layan and the children of Gaza, saying that Spanish society hears and sees them and that they will not be forgotten.
Sánchez expressed hope that Palestinian children would soon be able to return to school, draw without fear and build their futures in peace.
His message comes as Gaza continues to face a severe humanitarian situation, with international organizations warning of widespread food insecurity and malnutrition. Children, older people and other vulnerable groups remain particularly exposed to the consequences of the ongoing crisis.
According to United Nations agencies, millions of people in the territory continue to require humanitarian assistance, while efforts to address food shortages and acute malnutrition remain a major international concern.
The exchange between the Spanish prime minister and the young Palestinian girl has drawn attention to the human dimension of the crisis, highlighting the experiences of children caught up in conflict and the importance of protecting their right to safety, education and a peaceful future.
