Two killed in reported Ukrainian drone strike on southern Russian city
Two civilians were killed and five others injured following a reported Ukrainian drone attack on Rostov-on-Don, authorities in southern Russia said on Monday, marking another deadly incident in the cross-border aerial campaign linked to the ongoing war.
Regional officials stated that the overnight strike caused casualties and damage in the city, underscoring the growing impact of drone warfare on areas beyond the front lines.
Civilian casualties reported
According to Yuri Slyusar, the governor of the Rostov Region, two residents—a married couple—lost their lives during the nighttime attack. Five additional people were reported injured and received medical assistance.
Local authorities described the incident as one of the most serious drone attacks to affect the regional capital in recent weeks, although they did not immediately provide further details on the extent of the damage.
Cross-border drone attacks continue
Rostov-on-Don, located near the Ukrainian border, has increasingly found itself exposed to aerial attacks as both sides continue to rely on drones as a key component of the conflict.
Russian officials have repeatedly reported interceptions and strikes involving unmanned aerial vehicles targeting infrastructure, military facilities and urban areas, while Ukraine has not consistently commented on individual incidents inside Russian territory.
