Saudi Arabia restores full capacity on East-west oil pipeline after attacks
Saudi Arabia has announced the full restoration of oil transport capacity on its strategic East-West pipeline, reaching approximately seven million barrels per day, following recent attacks linked to regional tensions.
The announcement comes after several energy facilities across the kingdom were affected during the escalation of conflict involving Iran. According to official statements, the damaged infrastructure has now been repaired, allowing operations to return to normal levels.
The East-West pipeline plays a crucial role in Saudi Arabia’s energy network, as it connects oil fields in the eastern region to export terminals on the Red Sea. This route is particularly vital when access through the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted, making it a key alternative for maintaining global oil flows.
Recent attacks had temporarily reduced the country’s oil production capacity by an estimated 600,000 barrels per day, while pipeline throughput dropped by around 700,000 barrels per day. Energy sites in major areas, including Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Yanbu Industrial City, were impacted, affecting oil, gas, and electricity operations.
Saudi authorities also confirmed that part of the lost production has been recovered, notably from the Manifa oilfield, where output had previously declined. The swift restoration of infrastructure reflects the kingdom’s capacity to respond rapidly to disruptions in its energy sector.
The return to full capacity is expected to support stability in global oil markets, as Saudi Arabia remains one of the world’s leading energy suppliers. The situation also highlights the vulnerability of critical infrastructure in times of geopolitical tension and the importance of safeguarding energy supply chains.
