Royal Moroccan Navy Rescues 81 Irregular Migrants off Dakhla Coast

In a courageous rescue operation, a combat unit of the Royal Moroccan Navy, on maritime patrol duty, came to the aid of 81 individuals attempting irregular migration from sub-Saharan Africa to the Canary Islands. The distressed vessel, a dugout canoe carrying the would-be migrants, was spotted 280 kilometers southwest of the city of Dakhla and 165 kilometers offshore, amidst perilous weather conditions.

According to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, the Navy unit swiftly responded to the emergency, providing vital first aid to the individuals on board before safely escorting them to the port of Dakhla. Upon arrival, the rescued migrants were handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for standard administrative procedures.

This rescue operation exemplifies the Royal Moroccan Navy's unwavering commitment to safeguarding human life at sea, regardless of the circumstances. Their swift and professional response not only averted a potential tragedy but also underscored Morocco's dedication to upholding maritime security and combating the perils of irregular migration.

As the global community grapples with the complex issue of irregular migration, Morocco's proactive stance and its willingness to extend a helping hand to those in distress serve as a beacon of hope and compassion. The Kingdom's efforts in this realm have earned it widespread recognition and reinforced its position as a responsible and humanitarian regional partner.

The successful rescue of the 81 individuals highlights the invaluable role played by the Royal Moroccan Navy in maintaining vigilance and preparedness to respond to emergencies at sea. Their actions have not only saved lives but also demonstrated Morocco's commitment to promoting regional stability and cooperation in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by irregular migration.
