BT revives talks over international business sale
British telecom giant BT Group is reportedly restarting discussions over the potential sale or strategic partnership of its international business, according to Sky News, after suspending similar negotiations a year earlier.
The company is said to be in early talks with major global telecom players including AT&T, Orange, and Verizon. The objective would be to reshape BT’s international operations, which have faced ongoing financial pressure and strategic uncertainty.
The move comes as BT shifts its focus back to its domestic UK market, where it has been losing customers to smaller competitors. Chief Executive Allison Kirkby is leading efforts to streamline operations and improve profitability.
BT had previously considered separating its international division and has already sold assets such as its financial information unit, Radianz, as part of its restructuring strategy. The international arm currently operates in several countries, including Brazil, Argentina, and Canada.
According to reports, financial advisory firms such as Lazard or Goldman Sachs may assist BT in evaluating potential deals.
BT declined to comment, while AT&T, Orange, and Verizon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
