Nasser Bourita: “Pan-Africanism for Morocco has never been a slogan”
During the celebration of Africa Day in Rabat, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, highlighted the foundations of the country’s African policy, emphasizing continental integration, shared development, and strategic cooperation across Africa.
Speaking on Monday, May 25, in the presence of African ambassadors accredited in Morocco and representatives of the African diplomatic corps, Bourita stressed that Africa Day should not be seen as a symbolic event, but rather as a moment of reflection on the historical and strategic ties between Morocco and the African continent.
He underlined that Morocco’s approach to Africa is rooted in long-term commitment and structural cooperation, particularly in areas such as security, water management, economic development, and sustainable growth. According to him, water represents a central issue linking environmental, social, and economic challenges across the continent.
Bourita also highlighted Morocco’s leadership of the African Ministerial Conference on Water for the 2025–2027 period, noting the country’s experience in dam infrastructure and water resource management as a key contribution to continental cooperation.
He reaffirmed that Morocco considers Africa not as an external partner but as an integral part of its identity and future. “Africa is a necessity and an inseparable part of Morocco,” he stated, adding that the country’s constitution recognizes its African identity as a fundamental component of the nation.
The minister further explained that Morocco’s African policy is based on a “win-win strategy” driven by mutual trust and Afro-optimism. He emphasized that the Kingdom works not alongside Africa, but within it and with it, integrating economic investment into a shared development vision.
Bourita also recalled Morocco’s extensive diplomatic engagement across the continent, including thousands of cooperation agreements and dozens of royal visits, reflecting a long-standing commitment to strengthening African partnerships.
