Morocco launches health training program to boost youth employment
A new partnership in Morocco is targeting the gap between job seekers’ skills and the evolving needs of the healthcare sector. The initiative, known as the Promotion of Employment for the Health Sector program, aims to align training with labor market demand and improve job access for young people.
The project is implemented by EFE-Maroc in collaboration with the private healthcare group AKDITAL. It receives support through a public-private employment partnership program led by Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and GIZ Maroc, under a broader German development initiative focused on decent work and economic transition. The structure reflects a coordinated effort between government, private sector, and international partners to address structural employment challenges.
The program focuses on technical training tailored to healthcare roles alongside targeted soft skills development. These components are designed to match employer expectations in a sector facing growing demand for qualified staff. Since its launch in 2025, the initiative has trained 300 young participants, more than 80 percent of them women. Over 170 of those trained have secured positions within AKDITAL clinics, indicating a direct pathway from training to employment.
Organizers describe the program as a response to both workforce shortages and the need for practical skills alignment. The approach combines classroom instruction with employability workshops, aiming to strengthen both technical capacity and workplace readiness. The model also reflects broader policy priorities to expand access to quality jobs while supporting sectors with strong growth potential.
The initiative highlights the role of public-private cooperation in scaling employment solutions. By linking training providers with employers, the program reduces hiring friction and improves placement rates. It also supports gender inclusion in the workforce, given the high share of female participants.
EFE-Maroc, established in 2008, has trained nearly 90,000 young people and reports an insertion rate of 83 percent for its placement-focused programs. The organization works with more than 500 companies and is part of a wider regional network operating across the Middle East and North Africa.
