Moroccan High School Achieves Remarkable Success in Elite French Engineering School Admissions

In a remarkable demonstration of academic excellence, Morocco's Lycée d'Excellence de Benguérir (Lydex) has secured the fourth position among top preparatory schools for France's prestigious École Polytechnique, highlighting the institution's exceptional performance in international academic competitions.

The French magazine L'Etudiant recently ranked Lydex fourth in the Mathematics-Physics (MP) stream, positioning it just behind renowned Paris institutions like Henri-IV, Louis-le-Grand, and Sainte-Geneviève. The school's impressive track record reveals that 7% of students admitted to École Polytechnique between 2020 and 2024 originated from this exceptional Moroccan institution.

In 2023, Lydex set a remarkable milestone by securing 20 student admissions to Polytechnique, representing one-third of international student placements. This achievement builds upon previous successes, including a notable performance in 2022 when the school became the first Moroccan institution to place female students in the oral examination phase.

The institution's success reflects broader trends in Moroccan academic achievement. Campus France's 2024 report indicates that Moroccan students constitute the largest foreign student community in France, with 45,162 students enrolled during the 2022-2023 academic year. Particularly impressive is Morocco's leadership in engineering school enrollments, with 6,110 students representing a 26% increase between 2017 and 2022.

Rémi Chautard, a French mathematics professor, emphasized the high standards of Moroccan mathematics education, noting that some examination concepts exceed those covered in French terminal year programs.

Lydex's success stems from its comprehensive approach to education. Director Ahmed Benzzi highlighted the institution's commitment to providing high-level training, dedicated teachers, and comprehensive skill development, including communication and confidence-building strategies.

The school prioritizes social inclusion, with 90% of students receiving full scholarships and additional financial support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Its residential campus model integrates academic rigor with holistic student development, including sports activities to help manage the intensive study program.

Historically, Lydex has maintained consistent performance. Between 2019 and 2021, the school demonstrated impressive oral examination success rates, with 11 out of 15, 17 out of 21, and 11 out of 25 candidates successfully passing Polytechnique's rigorous selection process.

This latest ranking underscores Morocco's growing prominence in international academic circles, particularly in scientific and technological education. Lydex stands as a testament to the nation's commitment to nurturing exceptional academic talent and providing world-class educational opportunities.
