Tangier launches 280 next-generation buses to modernize urban transport
Tangier has officially launched a new fleet of 280 next-generation buses as part of a major overhaul of its urban and suburban public transport system. The initiative covers the city as well as neighboring municipalities within the Al Boughaz intermunicipal area.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Sunday, marked the beginning of a new operational phase aimed at improving the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of public bus services. The buses are equipped with modern onboard technologies designed to enhance passenger comfort and operational performance.
The fleet was acquired under a renewed delegated management model for public transport, with operations entrusted to a new operator for a ten-year period. This transition is intended to ensure service continuity while introducing higher standards in safety, accessibility, and reliability.
In addition to fleet renewal, the project includes the development of maintenance and parking facilities, as well as the deployment of digital systems such as electronic ticketing, passenger information services, and real-time fleet management. Authorities describe the initiative as a key step toward sustainable urban mobility and improved daily travel for residents.
