Kazakh president to begin three-day official visit to Japan
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is set to begin a three-day official visit to Japan starting December 18, marking a new step in the strengthening of diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
According to the Kazakh presidency, the visit will include high-level meetings with Emperor Naruhito and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral cooperation, regional stability, and prospects for expanding economic and technological partnerships.
The Kazakh leader is also scheduled to meet representatives of the Japanese business community, highlighting the importance both sides place on trade, investment, and industrial collaboration. Japan has long been viewed as a strategic partner for Central Asian countries, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, energy transition, and innovation.
A key moment of the visit will be President Tokayev’s participation in the Central Asia–Japan summit, a multilateral platform aimed at deepening dialogue between Japan and the five Central Asian nations. The summit reflects Tokyo’s growing engagement in the region and its interest in enhancing economic security and regional connectivity.
The upcoming meetings come after years of sustained ministerial dialogue between Japan and Central Asia. Despite previous delays linked to natural disaster concerns, the summit is now expected to provide renewed momentum for cooperation across political, economic, and strategic fields.
