Spain congratulates Chile’s newly elected president José Antonio Kast
The Spanish government, led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo have congratulated José Antonio Kast on his decisive victory in Chile’s presidential elections. Sánchez praised Kast’s win and highlighted Chile as “a country dear to Spaniards and a strategic partner for Europe,” stressing the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral relations.
Spain’s Foreign Ministry echoed this commitment, affirming its intention to work closely with Kast’s administration to enhance cooperation between the two nations, promote the prosperity of the Ibero-American region, and foster friendship between their peoples.
Feijóo also expressed congratulations on social media, describing Kast’s victory as “overwhelming” and emphasizing that Chileans exercised their democratic right to choose their leader freely.
Kast defeated leftist candidate Jeannette Jara with a substantial margin, securing 58.18% of the vote compared to Jara’s 41.82%, becoming the first pro-Pinochet figure to reach Chile’s presidency since the return of democracy.
