Zelensky announces defense minister reshuffle amid Ukraine war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans to reorganize key positions within his government as the country continues to face the challenges of war. The proposed changes include replacing the current defense minister and assigning him a new role in the energy sector, a move that still requires parliamentary approval.
Zelensky praised the outgoing defense minister for his structured and methodical work, particularly in strengthening state institutions during a critical period. According to the president, this experience is now needed in the energy sector, which has been under constant pressure due to repeated attacks on infrastructure since the start of the conflict with Russia.
Ukraine’s energy facilities have been frequent targets, especially during winter, forcing authorities to carry out urgent repairs to ensure electricity and heating supplies. The government reshuffle is therefore seen as part of a broader strategy to improve coordination and resilience in essential sectors.
The president also signaled his intention to appoint a younger and more technologically focused figure to lead the defense ministry, reflecting Kyiv’s emphasis on innovation and modernization in its military and security policies.
In parallel, Zelensky announced changes at the top of the presidential administration, highlighting his commitment to renewing leadership and addressing governance challenges while the war continues.
