Morocco hosts advanced U.S.-Israeli missile test during military exercise

Morocco is expanding its role in advanced military testing and defense cooperation after hosting a field exercise involving the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, U.S. forces and Covenant, a U.S.-Israeli defense company, according to reports. The activity focused on evaluating an advanced missile system under conditions designed to replicate operational environments.

The exercise was reportedly among the first activities conducted at the African Multi-Dimensional Training and Experimentation Center (AMTEC), a facility established to support military training, equipment testing and the evaluation of emerging defense technologies.

A new platform for military testing

AMTEC is intended to provide a specialized environment where military systems can be assessed under realistic field conditions rather than exclusively in laboratory settings. The facility is expected to support cooperation between Moroccan and U.S. forces, as well as defense companies and other potential partners.

Future testing activities could cover a broad range of technologies, including long-range missiles, unmanned aerial systems, autonomous platforms, sensors and communications equipment.

Such field trials are increasingly important for defense programs because they allow engineers and military personnel to collect operational data and assess how equipment performs in complex environments.

Testing the Anthem missile system

The reported exercise focused in part on the Anthem cruise missile system developed by Covenant. The company presents the system as a long-range missile designed with an emphasis on reducing production costs and enabling larger-scale manufacturing.

However, key technical specifications, including the missile's precise operational range, have not been officially disclosed by the developer, according to the information available.

The exercise reportedly involved the establishment of a temporary operational site designed to reproduce conditions that could be encountered during a real deployment. Several elements of the system were evaluated, including communications equipment, mobility components and systems associated with the missile and its launch platform.

Engineers and technical specialists from Covenant reportedly worked alongside American and Moroccan military personnel during the trials. Data collected during the exercise was analyzed to assess the system's performance and identify potential technical improvements.

Growing Morocco-U.S. defense cooperation

The activity reflects the broader development of defense cooperation between Morocco and the United States. Bilateral military ties have traditionally included joint exercises and training, but they are increasingly extending into areas such as technology evaluation, field experimentation and defense innovation.

Hosting advanced testing activities could strengthen Morocco's position as an important U.S. defense partner in Africa while providing the country with access to a specialized environment for evaluating emerging military technologies.
