Irish football association withdraws support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has withdrawn its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, dealing another political setback to the Swiss-Italian official as criticism over his leadership continues to grow.
The decision was taken following a meeting of the FAI board, which agreed to reverse a letter of support previously issued to Infantino earlier this year. The move comes after increasing concerns surrounding FIFA’s governance and decision-making process.
In a formal letter sent to FIFA, the Irish association reportedly outlined the reasons behind its decision, pointing to concerns over transparency, governance and what it described as insufficient consultation with member associations.

The Irish decision follows similar moves by football authorities in the United Kingdom. The Football Association of Wales was the first UK association to withdraw its support, followed days later by the English Football Association.
