Turkish intelligence chief meets Libyan commander Saddam Haftar in Benghazi
Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) chief Ibrahim Kalin held talks with Saddam Haftar, deputy commander of forces based in eastern Libya, during a meeting in Benghazi, according to security sources.
The discussions focused on efforts to support stability and peace in Libya, as well as initiatives aimed at reducing divisions between the country’s eastern and western administrations. The meeting also addressed the possibility of bringing different military structures under a unified national authority.
The talks come as Libya continues to face political and institutional challenges following years of internal divisions. Regional and international actors have repeatedly called for greater coordination and dialogue to promote long-term stability.
Kalin and Haftar also discussed Türkiye-Libya relations and explored ways to expand cooperation in different sectors. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and developing new areas of partnership.
The meeting reflects ongoing diplomatic and security efforts involving Türkiye and Libyan actors to encourage dialogue, support peace initiatives, and contribute to regional stability.
