Tim Cook delivers emotional final WWDC keynote as Apple CEO
Tim Cook closed his final Worldwide Developers Conference keynote as chief executive of Apple with a personal reflection on his 15 years leading the company. Speaking to developers at Apple Park and online audiences, he said he believed the best was still ahead for Apple and its ecosystem.
Cook described his tenure as the honor of a lifetime. He credited the global developer community for shaping Apple products and helping users “discover the world in extraordinary ways.” His remarks marked a symbolic transition moment as he prepares to move into the role of executive chair on 1 September, when John Ternus takes over as chief executive.
The event also highlighted Apple’s latest artificial intelligence push. Craig Federighi led most of the technical presentation, unveiling iOS 27, macOS Golden Gate and a redesigned Siri branded Siri AI. The new assistant integrates contextual screen awareness, task automation across multiple steps and a standalone chatbot experience, with an initial rollout planned in English later this year. Apple also introduced updates to its Liquid Glass interface design, expanded parental controls for child accounts and performance improvements that the company says will speed up app launches by up to 30 percent.
Cook’s departure from the keynote stage comes as Apple accelerates its shift toward AI-driven services and hardware integration. He succeeded Steve Jobs in 2011, when Apple’s valuation stood at roughly 350 billion dollars. Under his leadership, the company expanded into wearables, services and custom silicon, reaching a market value near 4 trillion dollars. His final appearance at WWDC drew a standing ovation from developers in attendance, underscoring the end of an era defined by only two chief executives in Apple’s modern history.
