Spain Dismantles Criminal Network Trafficking Moroccan Minors
Spanish authorities have announced the dismantling of an organization exploiting vulnerable minors by supplying falsified documents to underage migrants. The crackdown resulted in the arrest of seven individuals in Murcia, as reported by the police on Monday.
The investigation was initiated following the arrival of unaccompanied Moroccan minors in various provinces, primarily Malaga and Madrid, but also Valencia and Barcelona. These minors approached the police without any form of identification.
According to the police report, the minors initially arrived on the island of Lanzarote by boat and were subsequently placed in open centers for foreign minors in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. However, they absconded from these facilities and made contact with Moroccan nationals who facilitated their journey to the Spanish mainland.
Upon arrival in Spain, the criminal network sold counterfeit documents to the parents of these minors, demanding exorbitant fees ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 euros per individual.
Investigative Breakthrough and Arrests
The investigation culminated in a series of raids in Murcia, resulting in the apprehension of seven individuals on various charges, including document forgery, aiding illegal immigration, violating the rights of foreign nationals, and membership in a criminal organization.
During the searches, authorities seized substantial evidence, including 5,500 euros in cash, computer equipment, mobile devices, Moroccan passports, and other documents.
This crackdown not only disrupts a nefarious operation exploiting vulnerable minors but also serves as a stern warning against those who seek to undermine the integrity of Spain's immigration system and prey on the desperation of individuals seeking a better life.
