Morocco U17 to face Brazil in high-stakes World Cup quarterfinal

Morocco’s U-17 national team is set to clash with Brazil in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup on Friday at Pitch Seven in Doha. Kick-off is scheduled for 16:45 GMT+1. This marks a historic opportunity for Morocco, aiming to advance to the semifinals for the first time in the tournament’s history, while Brazil looks to extend its legacy as five-time champions.

Morocco’s road to the quarterfinals

The Atlas Cubs endured a turbulent group stage, suffering heavy defeats against Portugal and Japan but delivering a record-breaking 16–0 victory over New Caledonia. Advancing to the Round of 32, Morocco faced the United States in a tense encounter that ended in a 1–1 draw, with the North Africans prevailing in a penalty shootout.

In the Round of 16, Morocco met Mali in a rematch of the 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations final. This time, Morocco emerged victorious with a 3–2 win, thanks to goals from Ziyad Baha and Ismail El Aoud. However, defender Ilyas Hadaoui will miss the quarterfinal after receiving two yellow cards. This is Morocco’s first quarterfinal appearance since 2013, and their young squad is eager to make history.

Brazil’s dominance and key players

Brazil enters the quarterfinals following a dominant group-stage performance, including a 5–0 victory over Mexico. In the Round of 16, they defeated France in a nail-biting match that ended 1–1 before securing a 4–3 victory in a penalty shootout.

Brazil’s strength lies in its versatile attack. Forward Dell has scored three goals in three games, while Ruan Pablo and midfielder Felipe Morais have each contributed two goals. Angelo Candido has provided two assists, adding to Brazil’s creative edge. Defender Vitor Hugo, a towering centerback, has also scored and poses a significant threat on set pieces. With a blend of pace, creativity, and aerial prowess, Brazil’s squad is well-rounded and dangerous in all aspects of the game.

A battle of skill and determination

Friday’s match promises to be a test of resilience and skill. Morocco’s young talents will need to deliver a near-flawless performance to overcome Brazil’s experience and depth. While the South Americans are favorites, Morocco’s determination and recent form suggest they are capable of pulling off an upset. A victory would mark a monumental moment in Moroccan football history, while Brazil aims to maintain its dominance on the U-17 global stage.
