Iran Warns of Regional War If Nuclear Sites Are Attacked
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a stark warning that any military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities by Israel or the United States would ignite a full-scale war in the region.
Speaking in an interview during his visit to Qatar, Araghchi cautioned that such an attack would be a grave mistake by the U.S., leading to severe consequences. He emphasized that Iran would respond swiftly and decisively, resulting in widespread conflict.
Iranian officials have expressed growing concerns that the U.S. may enable Israeli military action against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure while intensifying sanctions. During his visit to Doha, Araghchi met with Qatar’s leadership to discuss regional stability and praised mediation efforts in securing a ceasefire in Gaza. He also met with Palestinian representatives, describing their resilience as a victory despite the devastation.
The conflict in Gaza has resulted in heavy casualties, with tens of thousands of Palestinian deaths, primarily among women and children, and significant destruction since October 7, 2023.
On Syria, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s support for a political resolution that ensures representation for all segments of Syrian society. He stressed the need for stability to prevent Syria from becoming a hub of prolonged conflict or a breeding ground for terrorism.
Addressing U.S.-Iran relations, he highlighted past tensions, including the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal and the assassination of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani. He urged the new U.S. administration to take tangible steps to restore trust, such as unfreezing Iranian assets. While not opposing direct talks, he insisted that any negotiations remain focused solely on the nuclear issue.
