GPC invests MAD 500 million to expand eco-friendly packaging plant in Mohammedia

GPC Papier et Carton, a subsidiary of Ynna Holding and a leader in Morocco’s paper and corrugated cardboard packaging industry, has announced a significant investment of MAD 500 million ($55.56 million) to modernize its plant in Mohammedia. The upgrade aims to boost production capacity, adopt cutting-edge technology, and generate new jobs, addressing rising global and local demand for sustainable packaging.

Increased production capacity and advanced technology

Currently producing 90,000 tons of cardboard packaging annually, the Mohammedia facility’s capacity is set to rise to 160,000 tons by 2030. As part of the upgrade, the plant will install Africa’s first Kento Hybrid digital printing machine for corrugated cardboard. This advanced machine combines flexography for color printing and high-definition digital printing for intricate visuals, enabling improved print quality, faster production, and lower costs. The innovation supports industries like agro-food, where packaging aesthetics play a critical role.

Job creation and sustainability focus

In addition to its production expansion, GPC plans to create over 100 direct jobs by 2027. The company is also committed to environmental stewardship. It has introduced the “FT Novus Green Pack” fund, a green securitization initiative worth MAD 250 million, in partnership with Maghreb Titrisation. This fund will finance environmentally and socially responsible projects in the packaging sector.

Broader sustainability goals

GPC’s modernization aligns with Morocco’s push for greener industrial practices. The company is enhancing energy efficiency, increasing the use of recycled paper, and improving waste recycling processes. In 2024, GPC supported its workforce through 15,000 hours of employee training, safety programs, and community initiatives promoting education and employment.

The upgrades position GPC to better serve its customers while strengthening its competitiveness locally and internationally. The project underscores Morocco’s commitment to fostering sustainable and innovative industries.
