Brahim El Othmani reelected president of the African Mutuality Union
Brahim El Othmani, chairman of the General Mutual Fund for Public Administration Staff (MGPAP) in Morocco, has been unanimously reelected for a second term as president of the African Mutuality Union (UAM). The announcement came during the 5th General Assembly of the African Confederation of Mutual Societies, held on Wednesday in Rabat.
During the assembly, members praised the progress made during El Othmani’s previous term, highlighting the implementation of joint projects, the strengthening of the union’s presence in regional and international forums, and the expansion of South-South cooperation. Partnerships aimed at supporting Africa’s mutualist system were also emphasized.
El Othmani expressed gratitude for the renewed confidence and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the continental strategy for mutualism. He stressed that the union aligns with Morocco’s African vision, focusing on cooperation, shared development, and leveraging Morocco’s experience in universal health coverage. He also highlighted the union’s role in promoting the right to health, social protection, reducing social vulnerability, and contributing to sustainable development.
The new executive board of the UAM includes Senegal, Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, Burundi, Tunisia, and Chad, alongside Morocco, which chairs the union.
Founded in 2007 under the leadership of MGPAP, the UAM aims to foster cooperation and solidarity among African mutual societies, mobilize technical expertise, and improve social coverage and access to healthcare across the continent.
