YNNA Group and AMEA Power to build 100-megawatt wind farm in Laayoune

Moroccan industrial leader YNNA Group and Emirati energy company AMEA Power, a subsidiary of Al Nowais Investments, have signed a partnership agreement to develop a 100-megawatt wind farm in Laayoune, Morocco. The project is set to contribute significantly to the Kingdom’s renewable energy goals.

Construction timeline and environmental impact

Construction of the wind farm is slated to begin by the end of 2025, with operations expected to commence in 2027. Once operational, the plant will prevent over 330,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, underscoring its role in advancing Morocco’s decarbonization efforts.

In a joint statement, the two companies emphasized their shared commitment to supporting Morocco’s national energy transition strategy. The project is positioned as a vital step toward enhancing the country’s energy sovereignty and low-carbon energy model.

Strategic partnership for sustainable energy

Mama Tajmouati, CEO of YNNA Group, described the partnership as a turning point for the company. "This reflects our dedication to building a competitive, sovereign, and sustainable energy framework for Morocco while serving the interests of both subsidiaries," she said.

Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power, echoed these sentiments, highlighting Morocco’s importance to the Emirati firm. "Morocco is not only a key market for us but also a sister nation to the UAE. This partnership reflects our commitment to delivering sustainable and accessible energy solutions with a strong local impact," he stated.

Morocco’s renewable energy goals

Morocco’s national energy strategy prioritizes efficiency and clean energy, with a target to generate 52% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. The renewable energy sector is also expected to create an estimated 100,000 jobs by the end of the decade, according to Minister of Energy Leila Benali.

The joint wind farm project aligns with Morocco’s broader ambitions to transition to sustainable energy while fostering economic growth and environmental preservation.
