UN Security Council to Address Moroccan Sahara Issue on April 14
The United Nations has announced its agenda for April, highlighting key discussions in the Security Council under France’s presidency. A significant topic will be the Sahara issue, which will be discussed during a closed-door consultation on April 14.
The session will include a briefing by the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura. He will provide updates on recent diplomatic efforts and consultations with important stakeholders.
Additionally, Alexander Ivanko, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of MINURSO, is expected to present a report on the latest developments in the region.
This closed consultation will also involve Algeria, a non-permanent member of the Security Council. The meeting comes amid a prolonged political deadlock in the UN-led efforts to find a mutually acceptable solution to the longstanding regional dispute.
