Spain reaffirms strong support for Ukraine amid Middle East tensions
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez assured on Wednesday that ongoing tensions in the Middle East would not reduce his country’s commitment to Ukraine as it continues to face Russian aggression. During a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, both leaders highlighted new cooperation agreements in defense production, including drones, radar systems, and missiles.
Sanchez emphasized that, despite global attention on the Middle East conflict, Spain’s support for Ukraine remains unwavering. “No crisis or situation will make us forget what is happening in Ukraine,” he stated. “We will continue assisting the Ukrainian people with the same determination.”
Ukraine has been enduring a full-scale invasion by Russia for over four years, while the recent U.S.-Israeli military actions in Iran have entered their third week.
President Zelenskiy noted that the discussions also included meetings with Spanish engineering firm Sener Aerospace & Defence. These talks focused on enhancing missile and air defense production, as well as exploring a joint project for long-range drones. “Strengthening air defense and protecting lives are our top priorities. Ukraine has new developments and is ready to scale them up,” Zelenskiy said.
The agreements signal a deepening of defense ties between Spain and Ukraine at a moment when international attention is divided across multiple crises.
