Cybersecurity: Morocco Ranks 43rd Worldwide in the 2026 Ranking
Morocco confirms the strengthening of its national cybersecurity framework. The Kingdom ranks 43rd globally out of 155 countries in the 2026 Global Cybersecurity Ranking published by the Estonian Academy of e-Governance (eGA), with a score of 79.17 out of 100.
This position places Morocco among countries that have enhanced their prevention and response capabilities against digital threats. The ranking highlights the progress made in protecting critical infrastructures, securing information systems, and strengthening the institutional framework dedicated to cybersecurity.
A Structured National Framework
Morocco's performance is notably supported by the actions of the General Directorate for the Security of Information Systems (DGSSI), as well as the regulatory framework established by Law No. 05.20 related to cybersecurity.
The national framework also relies on the intervention of several specialized agencies in the protection of the digital space. Securing critical IT infrastructures is among the main pillars of this strategy, alongside the development of electronic identity solutions aimed at securing administrative transactions.
The protection of personal data is also an important aspect of this ecosystem. It is notably under the purview of the National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP).
An Evaluation Based on 49 Indicators
The 2026 ranking is based on 49 indicators distributed across 12 evaluation domains. These are grouped around three main dimensions: the national cybersecurity strategy, prevention capabilities, and resources available to respond to digital threats.
The analysis notably takes into account the existence of legal frameworks, specialized structures, incident response mechanisms, international cooperation, as well as efforts dedicated to education and research.
In this evaluation, Morocco also shows advancements in strategic planning and the development of its public policies regarding cybersecurity, particularly with the intervention of the Strategic Cybersecurity Commission.
Training as a Strategic Challenge
The development of skills is another aspect highlighted in the evaluation. Several Moroccan universities now offer training and higher education programs dedicated to cybersecurity.
This orientation responds to a growing demand for profiles capable of identifying vulnerabilities, analyzing threats, and enhancing the protection of digital infrastructures.
The Kingdom is also focusing on awareness and risk analysis, with initiatives such as the "e-Himaya" platform, as well as on developing national capabilities in research and innovation.
Morocco Ahead of Several Technological Powers
Globally, Albania ranks first in the classification with the best-rated cybersecurity defenses according to this study. Canada comes in second with 96.67 points, followed by Finland, credited with 95.83 points.
The ranking also places several major technological economies among the top positions, while Morocco finds itself ahead of several European, American, African, and Asian countries.
Brazil ranks 56th globally and China 61st, with 69.17 points. Norway and Switzerland occupy the 46th and 47th positions, respectively.
This 43rd position thus reflects Morocco's progress in several components of cybersecurity, particularly in institutional, regulatory, and technical aspects.
Continuing Investments in Digital Resilience
Beyond the ranking, the results underscore the importance for Morocco to continue its efforts in a digital environment where risks evolve rapidly. Strengthening infrastructures, training specialists, protecting data, and improving response mechanisms are all levers to consolidate the country's resilience.
The 43rd position achieved in 2026 thus appears as an indicator of the capabilities already developed, but also as encouragement to continue investing in technologies, skills, and national protection mechanisms against cyber threats.
