The project had also benefited from the lifting of several environmental constraints to allow its realization. This decision has heightened concerns about the potential impact of the infrastructures on the national park.

Environmental Groups Mobilized

The opposition now extends beyond the local framework. The Center for Biological Diversity has initiated legal proceedings to try to block the project.

Environmental advocates are particularly concerned about the consequences of constructing heavy infrastructures in an area recognized for its landscapes and biodiversity.

The suspension announced by the U.S. administration is therefore met with caution by opponents. For them, the temporary halt of the project does not yet constitute a definitive abandonment.

Washington Faces a Strategic Choice
