Explosion in northwestern Pakistan kills 2, injures 17
A powerful explosion near a police station in northwestern Pakistan on Monday killed at least two people, including a child, and injured 17 others, local authorities reported.
The blast occurred in the Bannu district, a region known for frequent militant activity, particularly linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). According to police statements, the bomb was attached to a motorcycle and detonated remotely. No group has immediately claimed responsibility.
Bannu borders the volatile North Waziristan tribal area, which has long been a center of insurgent activity. Pakistan has experienced a resurgence of terrorist attacks in recent years, with Islamabad blaming TTP militants “based in Afghanistan,” a claim denied by Kabul.
Authorities have increased security in the district and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack. The incident highlights the continuing challenges of combating militant violence in northwestern Pakistan and ensuring civilian safety.
