Microsoft unveils ai-powered cybersecurity model to strengthen digital defense
Microsoft has announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence model designed specifically for cybersecurity, alongside an AI-powered platform aimed at automating key aspects of digital defense. The move reflects the growing competition among major technology companies to develop advanced tools capable of addressing increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
The company unveiled its new cybersecurity model, MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, during an event in San Francisco. The model is designed to help identify complex vulnerabilities in software and is intended to work alongside MDASH, a system focused on detecting, analyzing and addressing security weaknesses.
Microsoft has also introduced Perception, a platform built around teams of AI agents capable of carrying out a range of cybersecurity tasks. These include identifying vulnerabilities, assessing potential risks, prioritizing security issues and recommending corrective measures. The platform can also be integrated with MDASH to support a more automated approach to cyber defense.
According to Microsoft, MAI-Cyber-1-Flash has demonstrated strong performance in terms of efficiency and cost compared with competing models, based on results from the Cyber Gym benchmark. The company said the technology is already being deployed in production environments.
The new system is designed around three types of AI-powered teams. Red Teams simulate potential cyberattacks and identify weaknesses that could be exploited by attackers. Blue Teams focus on detecting and prioritizing vulnerabilities, while Green Teams work on corrective actions and propose solutions to address identified security problems.
Microsoft executives said the technology could significantly reduce the time required to handle cybersecurity tasks. Activities that previously demanded hours of manual work involving several specialists could potentially be completed within minutes, with AI assisting not only in identifying and ranking vulnerabilities but also in suggesting code modifications and other remediation measures.
The launch comes as cybercriminals increasingly use artificial intelligence to automate and scale attacks. Microsoft argues that organizations must therefore adopt AI-powered defenses capable of operating at a similar speed and scale.
The cybersecurity sector is consequently becoming an increasingly competitive field, with major AI developers and technology companies investing heavily in defensive applications. Microsoft’s latest initiative places the company in direct competition with other players developing AI-based cybersecurity solutions.
The company said its new tools are expected to enter a trial phase in November, marking another step in the broader evolution of AI-driven cybersecurity. As organizations face increasingly complex digital risks, the use of artificial intelligence to detect, analyze and respond to cyber threats is likely to become an increasingly important part of modern security strategies.
