Morocco ranks 43rd globally in the 2026 cybersecurity ranking
Morocco has strengthened its position in the global cybersecurity landscape, ranking 43rd out of 155 countries in the 2026 Cybersecurity Ranking published by the Estonian e-Governance Academy. The country scored 79.17 points out of 100, reflecting continued development in its digital security infrastructure and institutional framework.
The ranking highlights Morocco's progress in protecting critical infrastructure, strengthening cybersecurity legislation and developing national capabilities to respond to increasingly sophisticated digital threats.
A key element of Morocco's cybersecurity framework is the role of the General Directorate for Information Systems Security (DGSSI), supported by Law No. 05.20 on cybersecurity. Various specialised institutions also contribute to protecting national digital systems and improving the country's resilience against cyberattacks.
At the international level, Albania ranked first, followed by Canada and Finland. Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States were also among the countries recognised for their cybersecurity capabilities. Canada scored 96.67 points, while Finland achieved 95.83 points.
The assessment was based on 49 indicators covering 12 areas and grouped into three major dimensions: strategic cybersecurity, preventive security and the ability to respond to cyber threats and challenges.
The evaluation examined a broad range of factors, including national legislation, specialised cybersecurity units, emergency response mechanisms, international cooperation, education and research in digital security.
Morocco's 43rd-place ranking puts it ahead of several countries from Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. Brazil ranked 56th, China 61st with 69.17 points, while Norway and Switzerland occupied the 46th and 47th positions respectively.
The results point to the development of a regulatory and institutional environment designed to strengthen Morocco's digital resilience. Critical information infrastructure protection is among the areas receiving particular attention, alongside secure digital identity systems and the protection of personal data.
The National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP) also plays an important role in the country's efforts to safeguard personal information and strengthen confidence in digital services.
Morocco has also invested in cybersecurity awareness and threat monitoring. Initiatives such as the e-Himaya platform contribute to raising public awareness about digital risks and encouraging safer online practices.
Education and professional training represent another important component of the country's cybersecurity strategy. Moroccan universities have increasingly introduced specialised programmes and postgraduate studies focused on cybersecurity, helping develop a pool of professionals capable of addressing emerging digital threats.
The ranking nevertheless highlights the need for continued investment. As cyberattacks become more sophisticated and digital infrastructure expands, maintaining strong cybersecurity requires constant improvements in technology, legislation, skills development and international cooperation.
Morocco's position in the 2026 ranking therefore reflects progress in its cybersecurity ecosystem while also underlining the importance of sustaining these efforts. Strengthening national expertise and adapting security systems to emerging threats will remain essential as the country continues its digital transformation.
