Safran Expands Operations in Morocco with New Maintenance Facility at MidParc
MEDZ, a subsidiary of the CDG Group focused on territorial development, has announced a significant partnership with Safran, a leading player in the aerospace and defense sectors. On October 31, 2024, an agreement was signed for the acquisition of land within the MidParc Industrial Acceleration Zone, where Safran will establish a new maintenance and repair workshop for aircraft engines.
The signing ceremony took place under the auspices of Aziz Akhannouch, the Head of Government, with notable attendees including Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Abdellatif Loudiyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government responsible for National Defense Administration. This event coincided with the 7th edition of the Marrakech Air Show (MAS), held from October 30 to November 2, 2024, at the Royal Air Forces Academy.
The new facility, covering an area of 25,000 square meters, is set to focus on maintenance and repair operations for the next-generation LEAP engines. Expected to be operational by 2026, it aims to handle up to 150 maintenance operations annually and will create approximately 600 jobs for highly skilled engineers and technicians.
In addition to this project, Safran has entered into a contract with Hamid Benbrahim El Andaloussi, President of Miparc SA, to provide project management assistance.
MidParc, located in Casablanca, the economic hub of Morocco, has already attracted over 20 investment projects in the aerospace value chain, generating more than 3,000 jobs and accounting for about 15% of employment in the sector. The zone hosts various national and international players specializing in aerospace, defense, security-related activities, as well as other industries like medical technology and embedded electronics.
This new initiative underscores Morocco's commitment to enhancing its aerospace industry and creating a robust ecosystem that supports innovation and job creation.
