Trump expected in Egypt for Gaza ceasefire agreement signing

Cairo, October 9, 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he “would try” to travel to Egypt for the signing of the ceasefire and hostage-release agreement between Israel and Hamas, adding that he planned to leave for the region on Sunday.

“We are going to try to get there, we are working on the exact timing. We will go to Egypt, where we (…) will have an official signing,” Trump said, referring to the long-awaited truce deal aimed at ending the months-long conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The American president added that the hostages held by Hamas were expected to return “Monday or Tuesday.” He emphasized that he hoped to attend the ceremony personally, calling it “an important step toward lasting peace.”

During a cabinet meeting and later in talks with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Trump mentioned that Israeli officials had invited him to address the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. “I agreed,” he said, claiming it would be “the first time a president has done so.”
However, records show that Jimmy Carter (1979), Bill Clinton (1994), and George W. Bush (2008) had already addressed plenary sessions of the Knesset.

Trump also outlined the next stages of his 20-point Middle East peace plan, which he said aims to establish “eternal peace” in Gaza. The plan includes disarmament, troop withdrawal, and humanitarian guarantees, with the immediate focus on recovering the remaining hostages.

He acknowledged that the remains of some captives “may be difficult to recover,” but reiterated that “no one will be forced to leave” Palestinian territories — a pledge that was part of the initial U.S. proposal to both Israel and Hamas.
